HOUSTON – A person was hospitalized late Saturday following a rollover crash in southeast Houston, according to local authorities.

According to a Fox 26 report, the incident occurred near the intersection of South Wayside Drive and Lawndale Street. Police said the vehicle overturned and caught fire during the crash.

Initial reports from the Houston Police Department indicated that the crash may have been fatal, but officials later confirmed that no deaths occurred. Around 11:50 p.m., authorities stated that one person had been transported to Ben Taub Hospital with injuries.

It remains unclear whether any other vehicles were involved or if additional people were hurt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

What Are the Leading Causes of Rollover Accidents?

Rollover crashes can happen in a split second, and they often result from hazards outside the driver’s control. While some rollover accidents occur due to careless driving behaviors, many others stem from external conditions or vehicle issues, including:

  • Tire blowouts due to manufacturing defects or poor maintenance by commercial vehicle operators
  • Overloaded or imbalanced cargo that raises the vehicle’s center of gravity, especially in trucks or vans
  • Vehicle design flaws that make certain models more prone to tipping
  • Suspension system failures that affect stability
  • Sharp turns or evasive maneuvers caused by another driver’s negligence
  • Poorly maintained roads, including uneven pavement or potholes
  • High-speed collisions where impact from another vehicle forces a rollover
  • Inadequate guardrails or missing barriers on curves or overpasses

How Can You Prove a Vehicle Defect Led to a Rollover?

When a rollover appears to involve a malfunction or design flaw in the vehicle, a Houston car crash attorney will investigate whether a vehicle defect played a role. Proving this kind of claim requires a thorough and technical approach. Here are some steps an attorney might take when preparing a rollover defect case:

  • Secure the damaged vehicle for inspection before it’s repaired or scrapped
  • Hire accident reconstruction experts to analyze how the rollover occurred
  • Review crash data from the vehicle’s event data recorder (EDR)
  • Examine tires, suspension, and steering components for signs of failure
  • Request service records or recalls that show prior mechanical issues
  • Investigate whether similar rollovers have been reported with the same make and model
  • Analyze crash photos and scene evidence, such as skid marks or debris patterns
  • Interview witnesses and first responders for initial observations about the crash and fire

If an attorney can prove that a defect caused or worsened a rollover, this can shift liability from the driver to a manufacturer or another party and significantly affect compensation in an injury case.
