What Makes Drunk Driving So Dangerous?

Drunk driving is extremely dangerous because alcohol impairs essential skills needed to operate a vehicle safely, including:

  • Reaction time
  • Coordination
  • Judgment
  • Vision acuity

When a driver is intoxicated, they are less able to make quick decisions or respond to unexpected situations on the road. Moreover, alcohol also increases risk-taking behavior and reduces the ability to focus, both of which may have contributed to the fatal accident early this morning. These impaired abilities can lead to devastating accidents that cause serious injuries or fatalities—not only to the impaired driver but also to passengers, other drivers, and innocent bystanders.
